Major General Wajira Welagedara of Gemunu Watch assumed office as the new General Officer (GOC) Commanding of the 51 Infantry Division in Kopay under the Security Force HQ - Jaffna on Wednesday (14).
The newly-appointed GOC was warmly welcomed by the Staff Officers of the Division and subsequently invited to receive military honours in the Guard Turnout and the Guard of Honour in conformity with military traditions.
Afterwards, he in his new office amidst religious blessings, placed his signature for an official document to signify the acceptance of the appointment as the General Officer Commanding, 51 Infantry Division.
In order to remember the day’s event, Major General Wajira Welagedara planted a Mango Sapling inside the camp premises before he addressed the troops. Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the day’s ceremony.
