Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe, the 30th General Officer Commanding of the 51 Division relinquished his duties on Saturday (04) during a formal military ceremony, held at the 51 Division Headquarters in Kopay, Jaffna.
The outgoing General Officer Commanding was invited to review the Guard Turnout, presented at the entrance to the Headquarters, 51 Division on arrival. A few minutes later, a Guard of Honour, presented by 14 Gajaba Regiment troops honoured him saluting at the parade ground.
Thereafter, the outgoing Senior Officer symbolized his relinquishment by placing his signature to handing over documents. He also posed for a few group photographs with Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers and Officers under command to the 51 Division.
Subsequently, the outgoing General Officer Commanding 51 Division addressed the troops at the 51 Division's gymnasium and shared memories of his over 06 months of service and expressed deep gratitude to the troops who supported him throughout the service as the General Officer Commanding 51 Division. He also urged them to continue their commitment in the same spirit whilst safeguarding the reputation of the organization.
All Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers and Other Ranks were there to extend best wishes to the outgoing Senior Officer. The General Officer Commanding attended an all rank tea after a while.
Finally, all Brigade Commanders and Colonel General Staff of 51 Division presented mementos and appreciated the outgoing Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe's service, rendered to the Division.
Major General Chandana Wickremasinghe is now the Military Secretary.
