The 5 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment (SLLI) celebrated its 36th Anniversary on 15 August giving priority to military formalities and religious observances.
The anniversary celebration was comprised of sports activities, an overnight ‘Pitith’ chanting session, a Guard of Honour, a formal All Rank lunch and a musical evening.
The 5 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment was established on 15 August 1987 in Kandy, Pallekale. During the three-decade of war, troops of the 5 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment actively contributed to the eradication of LTTE terrorism from the country.
