5 SLAWC Soldiers Pocket out Own Resources to Treat Children with Different Needs

Children at 'Ozanam' Center for Children with Special Needs at Sathurkondan, Batticoloa, thanks to an initiative of the Security Force HQ- East were the recipients of free dry ration packets and a delicious lunch on Sunday (09) with sponsorship, extended by woman soldiers of the 5 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) at Welikanda.

Under the guidelines given by Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Commander, Security Forces - East, members of the 5 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps and 4 Gemunu Watch troops organized the distribution at this center. The delicious lunch and dry ration packs cost Rs 60,000.00 for woman soldiers. Parents of those 24 children received dry ration relief packs, sponsored by the Army.

Furthermore, Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, Commander, SF-(E) attended as the Chief Guest taking a personal interest in the project took time off on Sunday (09) to spend a couple of hours with those inmates during the treat and afterwards. Those children with different skills presented their artistic flavour and aesthetic values by drawing arts and showing their handcrafts and dancing, etc to the officers and soldiers present at the venue.

Brigadier Dilupa Bandara, Commander, 231 Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Prabhath Halpage, Civil Coordinating Officer SF-(E), Lieutenant Colonel Dammika Weerasinghe, Civil Coordinating Officer 231 Brigade, Commanding Officers and several Officers and Other ranks took part in the project.
