Major General S.B Amunugama RWP RSP ndu of Gajaba Regiment (GR), assumed office as the 4th Commander of the 1 Corps HQ on Thursday (08 June) amidst traditional military formalities at the Headquarters, 1 Corps at Kilinochchi.
The day’s proceedings commenced with a Guard Turnout presented to the new Commander, 1 Corps at the main entrance. Subsequently, he was warmly welcomed by Brigadier General Staff of 1 Corps, Brigadier P.C.L Gunawardana RWP RSP psc and accompanied to take the salute of the Guard of Honour, presented by GR Regiment troops.
Moments later, amid religious rites and rituals, followed by the ‘Seth Pirith’ chanted by the Maha Sangha, Major General S.B Amunugama RWP RSP ndu assumed his new office by placing this signature symbolically in an official document on the auspicious minute.
Afterwards, the Commander 1 Corps posed for a few group photographs before planting a sapling at the Headquarters premises. Further, the new Commander 1 Corps educated his Officers and Other Ranks in respect of duties and responsibilities, entrusted to them during the troop address.
Towards the end of the day’s agenda, he interacted with the troops during an All Rank tea arranged at the Corporals’ Club. General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers of 1 Corps and Other Ranks took part in the series of events.
