412 Youths of All Three Major Ethnicity Complete 'Soldiering' Course & Join the Army

A total of four hundred and twelve (412) recruits who underwent training at the Battalion Training School in Vasavillan, Jaffna passed out on Saturday (9) during a simple ceremony after successful completion of their four-month long basic training.

This recruit training course, comprised of both Tamil and Sinhala speaking youths during the training were transformed to be professional soldiers while making them physically, mentally and morally fit to face any future challenges of the organization.

To be in line with the ' Army Way Forward Strategy - 2020 - 2025 ' of the Commander of the Army, this is the second Recruit Course of the Battalion Training School in Vasavillan, Jaffna where Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim youngsters passed out after the four-month long training in order to serve the country as disciplined soldiers.

Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division graced the passing out ceremony as the Chief Guest and delivered the closing address where he emphasized the soldier’s responsibilities and importance of maintaining of discipline, proper performance of duties, etc. Further, he highlighted that troops are the cornerstone of state and human security, but their legitimacy and effectiveness depend on fulfilling their mission accountably within a framework of democratic, civilian control, rule of law and respect for human rights.

Lieutenant Colonel A. S Kandambi, Chief Instructor, Battalion Training School closely supervised the training modules with the support of the school's Commandant.

The Recruit G.A.D Sagara received the award for the Best Shot, Recruit P.S.P Jayawardana, the award of Best Recruit and the Recruit A.P Jayasena as the Best in Physical Training . They all accepted those awards from the day's Chief Guest.

Senior officers, Officers, Other Ranks and a group of newly-recruited soldiers' relatives participated in the ceremony adhering to health guidelines.
