233 Brigade troops of 23 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) adding its share to ongoing house construction for needy civilians as per directions of the Army HQ on Friday (13) laid the foundation stone for construction of a new house for one Mr. Ravindra and his family in Sevanapitiya who are living in abject poverty.
At the request of the Commander - 233 Brigade, Mr Prasad Lokubalasooriya from Gampaha has consented to sponsor the cost of raw materials, needed for the construction while Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) troops volunteered to offer their manpower, technical, and engineering expertise for the construction work under the supervision of the Commander 233 Brigade and the Civil Affairs Officer - 233 Brigade.
Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Commander, Security Forces - East and Major General Nalin Koswatta, General Officer Commanding 23 Division gave their blessings to the project.
Colonel Wasantha Hewage, Commander - 233 Brigade in Wakarei during a brief ceremony laid the corner-stone for the construction of the new home for the needy family with a few more officers.
Commander 233 Brigade, Mr Prasad Lokubalasooriya, the sponsor for the project, Commanding Officer- 9 SLA, Civil Affairs Officer -233 Brigade and troops associated with the construction were present at the occasion adhering to COVID 19 preventive health measures.
