231 & 141 Brigade Troops Contribute to International Coastal Clean-up Day

In line with the International Coastal Clean-up Day and Marine Resources Conservation Week (23-30 September), troops of the 11 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) of the 231 Brigade under the 23 Division of the Security Force HQ-East cleaned up the beach patch along Kattankudy to Batticaloa on Saturday (24).

It was done under the directions of Major General Shewanth Kulathunga, General Officer Commanding of the 23 Division and Brigadier Dilupa Bandara, Brigade Commander, 231 Brigade. Led by Major Y.M.A.B Yapa, Commanding Officer, 11(V) SLSR, his troops and Kattankudy civilians too joined the project.

In the meantime, 141 Brigade troops under command to the 14 Division of the Security Forces-West on Friday (23) on account of the International Coastal Clean-up Day contributed their share to the beach cleaning by deploying troops along the coastal belt from Negombo to Poruthota covering a distance of about 3 km.

Troops of the 6 Sri Lanka Artillery, 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 2 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps under command to the 141 Brigade HQ joined their hands together with volunteers of the Negombo Municipal Council and the Coastal Conservation Authority.
