23 Infantry Division's Initiative Provides Free Spectacles to the Needy in Welikanda

Troops of 9 Sri Lanka Artillery of the 233 Infantry Brigade of the 23 Infantry Division under command to the Security Force Headquarters-East, considering the vision-care ailments, defects and illnesses among needy people living in Welikanda and adjacent areas held a mobile eye-clinic arrangement at Welikanda Cultural Centre on Tuesday (18) and distributed a stock of reading glasses and spectacles.

Major General U.D Wijesekara RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Commander, Security Forces- East attended the distribution as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Brigadier K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division. The Mobile Medical and Eye Care Unit of the ‘Help Age Sri Lanka’ organization volunteered to provide a total of 118 spectacles free to those needy people examined earlier after they on 10 July held a separate mobile eye care camp for screening of the most deserving.

The coordination of 9 Sri Lanka Artillery troops through arrangements put in place by Lieutenant Colonel M.I.S Chandrakumara USP Psc Commanding Officer, 9 Sri Lanka Artillery identified those in need of spectacles before the distribution took place in consultation with Grama Seva officials.

Brigadier K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding of 23 Infantry Division, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and Officials of 'Help Age Sri Lanka' and Supreme Global Holdings institutes participated in the event.
