Troops of the 23 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ- East added their share to the commemoration of the Vesak festival arranging a series of events in the camp premises on Vesak Poya day (05 May) under the guidance of Major General S.A Kulathunge RWP RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division.
A 'Bodhi Pooja' and a 'Dhamma' sermon was conducted by Ven. Susirigama Sangharakkhitha Thero, Chief Incumbent at Sewanapitiya Susirigama Sama Temple in the morning where merits were transferred on fallen War Heroes and blessings invoked on differently-able soldiers, serving Army personnel and their family members.
Afterwards, a 'Sago Dansela' was opened near the camp premises alongside the Polonnaruwa - Batticaloa main road where nearly 2000 people from adjacent villages in Punani and passengers on the main road enjoyed. In addition, a huge and colourful Vesak lantern was displayed at the same location in the evening.
Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks were associated with the events.
