On account of the 'Vesak' Poya Day, 221 Infantry Brigade troops of the 22 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ-East under the guidance of the 22 Division's General Officer Commanding, Major General S.B Amunugama RWP RSP ndu conducted a distribution of dry rations among 50 selected low-income families living in Trincomalee on 5 May at Trincomalee Kumburupiddi Vidyaloka Viharaya.
A Colombo-based Sri Lankan philanthropist and Sri Lankans, resident overseas provided financial sponsorship for this event, organized by 17 Sri Lanka National Guard troops. Brigade Commander, 221 Infantry Brigade, Colonel A.K Peiris RSP supervised the project.
Dry rations included rice, dhal, sprats, spices, nutrients and grains. Each pack was worth Rs 6000/=.
Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks supported the distribution programme.
