Southern students, teachers and the principal at Pannipitiya Dharmapala Vidyalaya, showing their concern for flood and poverty-affected their counterparts in Mullattivu distributed a large stock of school accessories among 220 deserving students during a simple ceremony held at Mullaittivu Chemmalai Maha Vidyalaya on Wednesday (16).
This gesture of brotherhood and reconciliation, coordinated by Colonel Lanka Amarapala under guidelines given by Major General Dushyantha Rajaguru, Commander Security Forces- Mullaittivu was conducted under the supervision of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, General Officer Commanding 59 Division. Together with the Principal and tutorial members, a representative group of students joined the distribution.
In the meantime, Jaffna troops once again extending their hand of reconciliation and goodwill coordinated the donation of 250 more packs of accessories and exercise books to deserving students in four more Jaffna schools on Saturday (19). The programme was initiated by the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Dharshana Hettiarachchi with a view to uplifting educational standards of poor students in the peninsula after several donors offered their sponsorship to the worthy project.
Students of low-income group families learning in Tholpuram AMTM school and Vigneshwara school, Victoria College in Chulipuram and Saivapiragasa Vidyalaya in Moolai who were carefully chosen received those incentives for education at ceremonies, held separately at Community Centers in Kaakathivu and Tholpuram.
The ‘Bosath Samaja Sathkara Padanama’ along with the Station Master in Nailiya Railway Station, Mr. Chandana Thilakasiri and Mr Ravindra Dissanayake make those donations. The donations were distributed by Brigadier General Staff of Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna, Brigadier Priyantha Gamage.
