Troops of the 22 Infantry Division arranged a formal ceremony to bid farewell to the former Commander, Security Forces - East (SF - East), Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG on 01 April 2024 at the 22 Infantry Division Headquarters.
In accordance with military traditions, a Guard Turnout was accorded upon his arrival at the 22 Infantry Division. Subsequently, Major General P.A.M Peiris RSP USP psc, the General Officer Commanding of 22 Infantry Division, warmly welcomed the outgoing Commander at the entrance. Adding memories to the day, the Senior Officer was invited to pose for a few group photographs with the staff. Following this, the outgoing Commander addressed the troops, followed by an All-Ranks tea session.
Afterward, the outgoing Commander inaugurated the newly renovated Other Ranks’ Lagoon View Holiday Bungalow and distributed bicycles to under-command Battalions of the 22 Infantry Division. Additionally, the key of a newly constructed house was handed over to a deserving family in Paranamadawachchiya, constructed by the 20th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment.
Afterwards, the farewell lunch was held. The outgoing Commander penned some complimentary remarks in the visitors’ book.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 22 Infantry Division, Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks participated in the event.
