06 Officers and 205 Other Ranks of the 22 Infantry Division HQ under the Security Force HQ - East launched a beach cleaning programme to rid the coastal belt of Nilaveli of pollutants on Tuesday (June 13).
This popular beach resort in the past few weeks were filled with waste and pollutants after rain waters encroached the areas.
The project was initiated by Major General G.M.N Perera RWP RSP USP ndu, General Officer Commanding of the 22 Infantry Division and was carried out under the supervision of Colonel A.K Peiris RSP, Commander, 221 Infantry Brigade and respective Commanding Officers in the area.
Further, 02 Officers and 30 Other Ranks of the Sri Lanka Navy, 28 Police personnel and 05 Officials from the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) also joined hands with the Army for this community-oriented project.
