The 211 Brigade troops of the 21 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni with sponsorship provided by the Kadawatha-based ‘Sarana’ Buddhist Foundation of Mr Sunil Wijewardene and Mr Gnanasiri, together with their business partners gave away 350 dry ration packets and 100 packets of baby requirements to both women and pregnant women in Medawachchiya, Rambewa and South of Vavuniya on Friday (9).
The humanitarian gesture, initiated by Brigadier Chaminda Wijayarathna, 211 Brigade Commander with the blessings of Major General Upul Weerakoon, General Officer Commanding, 21 Division, was organized by the troops of the 211 Brigade Civil Affairs section and 2 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
The community project, worth about Rs 3.4 m was attended by a representative group of donors of the ‘Sarana’ Buddhist Foundation of Kadawatha. Mrs M.C Malaviarachchi, Divisional Secretary for Medawachchiya, together with Brigadier Chaminda Wijayarathna joined the distribution of those relief packs to deserving families and 100 pregnant women who also were given baby accessories as incentives.
The Civil Affairs Officer, Senior Officers and state officials were present during the distribution programme.
