A group of 75 selected needy students in the Netiyagama Vidyalaya living in the general area of Mihintale, Anuradhapura, thanks to the initiatives taken by the 21 Division HQ of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) were the recipients of school accessories, bags and stationery for the year 2020 on Sunday (26).
The donation programme, held at Rajarata University premises as one more community-oriented project of the SFHQ-W was launched with the blessings of Major General Rohitha Dharmasiri, Commander, SF-W and the coordination of Major General Kumar Jayapathirane, General Officer Commanding, 21 Division.
The generosity of two Canada-based philanthropists, Mr Mahinda Bandara Dissanayake and Ms Jayanthi Dissanayake enabled the 21 Division to launch the project through the organizational ability of the 212 Brigade, commanded by Colonel Anil Peiris.
Major General Kumar Jayapathirane at the invitation of the 212 Brigade graced the distribution ceremony at the Rajarata University auditorium as the Chief Guest and gave away those incentives to the deserving students.
The SFHQ-W has been engaged in many community-oriented projects in the past few years by way of construction of houses for the poor, distribution of school accessories to students, supply of drinking water purification units and various other welfare schemes.
Assistant Director of Planning, Divisional Secretariat - Mihintale, Assistant Registrar and Senior Assistant Registrar Rajarata University - Mihinthale, OIC Police Station Mihintale, Principal and Teachers of Netiyagama School, Commanding Officer, 7 (V) Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC), Civil Affairs Officer and Senior Officers of the 21 Division, along with students and their parents too were present at the occasion.
