2 SLCMP Troops Reap Their Maiden Paddy Harvest

2 Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) troops at Giritale during a typical harvesting ceremony on Friday (11) reaped their maiden paddy harvest from an abandoned patch of marshy field after they sowed paddy seeds some 4 months ago in a bid to provide a stimulant to the Army Commander's contribution to the government's 'Green Agriculture and Food Security' drive.

2 SLCMP troops taking this initiative under the instructions of Major General Chanaka Mettananda, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - East (FMA-E) dug the earth, ploughed it and prepared beds in this unattended wetland patch of 3 acres in Giritale area in an attempt to contribute to the national food drive before they sowed seed paddy in August earlier this year.

A simple harvesting ceremony, led by Major N.P.E.N Nerangama, Commanding Officer, 2 SLCMP who closely supervised and guided the troops for this project reaped the maiden harvest with the participation of a representative gathering of soldiers.
