1st Recruit Training Course at Vasavilan Inaugurated

The 1st Recruit Training Course at Vasavilan Battalion Training School in Jaffna under the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna with 360 recruits of Tamil, Muslim and Sinhala ethnicity got to a start on Monday (13) during a simple ceremony, headed by Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division.

This recruit training programme that would go on for four months was initiated under the guidance of the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku in line with the ‘Army Way Forward Strategy 2020 - 2025’.

General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, Major General Chandana Wickramasighe, graced the event as the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony and delivered opening remarks, in which he emphasized the salient aspects of basic military training such as the transformation process from civil-life to military life, responsibilities of trainees during their training period and importance of maintaining discipline, behaviour, commitment and dedication to follow military training, etc.

The composition of the group with Tamil, Muslim and Sinhala youths, drawn from all corners of the country is the first such course in this Vasavilan Battalion Training School in the peninsula. The course will be closely monitored by the General Officer Commanding, 51 Division until its completion in April 2022.

The Brigade Commanders of 511, 513 and 515 Brigades, Staff Officers of Security Forces - Jaffna and 51 Division, Chief Instructor of Battalion Training School, Commanding Officers of under command battalions and Instructors of Battalion Training School were also present.
