The Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) celebrated its 16th anniversary on Saturday (Feb 11) at the Regimental Centre located at Dambulla under the guidance and participation of Major General Deepal Pussella, Colonel of the Regiment, MIR.

Beginning the day’s itinerary, the Colonel of the Regiment as the Chief Guest was warmly welcomed by Brigadier Anura Abeysinghe, Centre Commandant, MIR, before he paid a floral tribute to the memory of fallen War Heroes at the MIR monument.

Afterwards, the Chief Guest was honoured in a colourful military parade, inclusive of several heavy vehicles. Later, he planted a sandalwood sapling inside the premises as a symbol of memory before members of the Regimental Council members sat together. They all took part in an All Rank lunch and added memories to the day.

In the evening, an all-night Pirith chanting got underway to invoke blessings, followed by 'Heel Dana' to the monks, the following day morning. Finally, a Dinner Night was arranged at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess on the next day (Feb 12) with the participation of the Colonel of the Regiment, MIR as the Chief Guest.
