16 Gajaba Regiment (16 GR) troops of the 143 Infantry Brigade under the 14 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ- West promptly acted to douse a bushfire that broke out at Thabbowa Reserve in Karuwalagaswewa area on Friday (11 Aug) evening.
As soon as the District Forest Officer informed the Army of the fire, 01 Officer and 30 Other Ranks of the 16 GR rushed to the location and worked tirelessly, together with the members of fire Brigade and local authorities to extinguish the fire which had by then spread to nearly 200 acres of vegetation and the forest reserve.
The Commander, 143 Infantry Brigade and Commanding Officer of the 16 GR supervised the operation under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 14 Infantry Division and the Commander, Security Forces - West.
