Troops belonging to 3 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) with sponsorship provided by the Basnayake Nilame at Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya coordinated and undertook the responsibility of distributing some 5000 packs of dry rations among needy families in Kataragama after information about them was conveyed to the troops by respective Grama Niladari officials.
The project that got underway during both 24-25 June under the guidance of the GOC 12 Division, Major General Prasanna Ranawaka was closely supervised by the Commander, 122 Brigade, Brigadier Janaka Pallekumbura.
This programme coincided with the sacred ‘Poson Poya’ Day and those relief parcels were accordingly distributed among needy families in Katharagama township area, Detagamuwa, Sellakatharagama, Karawile and Kandasuridugama where people were undergoing hardships due to prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.
