12 Infantry Division troops of the Security Force HQ - Central attended an awareness programme on ‘Earthquakes and Role of Security Forces’ on Wednesday (10) at Singapore - Sri Lanka Friendship Hall, Hambantota with the motive of educating the troops following an initiative taken by Major General G.M. N Perera RWP RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 12 Infantry Division.
Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe (Retd) RWP RSP ndu psc, Director General of Disaster Management Centre (DMC) led the team of instructors during those informative sessions. At the beginning, Director General, DMC elaborated the ‘Role and Tasks of the DMC’ before Ms Anoja Senevirathne, Director, Disaster Reduction, Research and Training contributed to the sessions on ‘Earthquake Disaster Risk Management’.
Finally, Brigadier W.L.A.C Perera RWP RSP USP, Director, Emergency Operation Centre conducted a lecture on ‘Tasks of Search and Rescue Teams and the Army in an Earthquake Situation’. The GOC, 12 Infantry Division and 40 Officers and 640 Other Ranks, inclusive of 121 and 122 Brigade Commanders, and troops of under-command Brigades and Battalions took part in the arrangement.
