Brigadier Janaka Priyadarshana of Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) assumed duties as the 11th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 66 Division, amid religious blessings at the 66 Division Headquarters in Pooneryn on 20 June.

The newly-appointed General Officer Commanding of the 66 Division was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers and honoured in a Guard Turnout, presented by 5 (V) Mechanized Infantry Regiment troops as he entered the premises. Afterwards, he was accompanied to his office and the new GOC placed his signature in an official document to mark the assumption of his duties amidst 'Seth Pirith' chanting of the Maha Sangha.

Later on, the new GOC was invited to plant a sapling as a gesture of memory before he made a formal address to the Officers at the HQ.

He succeeded Major General Lasantha Rodrigo, who has now been appointed as the Commandant at the Defense Services Command and Staff College.
