112 Brigade Troops Again to the Rescue in Passara Bus Accident

Army troops of the 112 Brigade of the 11 Division who rushed to the 13th Mile Post in Passara area where a passenger bus has skidded off and fell into a precipice of more than 200 ft, near Passara along Badulla- Bibile road, are currently engaged in rescue operations, together with others as of this morning (20).

The bus with full capacity has left Badulla around 7.00 am and reached the location of the accident by about 7.30 am when it lost control and fell into the precipice, killing 14 and injuring more than 45 passengers. At the time this report was filed, those troops on the instructions of Brigadier Anura Dissanayaka, 112 Brigade Commander were busy removing remains of passengers and rescuing those trapped under the badly-affected bus. The Army team included medical assistants, too.

According to the Police, 45 injured passengers have been admitted to Passara and Badulla Hospitals, some of whose conditions are reportedly critical.

Brigadier Anura Dissanayaka, 112 Brigade Commander is at the location supervising and assisting evacuation efforts.
