An attempt by a motorbike rider to flee through an Army-manned roadblock along the Ampara - Akkaraipattu road after stealing the motorbike from Akkaraipattu town was thwarted by 11 Sri Lanka National Guard (11 SLNG) troops of the 241 Infantry Brigade under the 24 Infantry Division of the security Force HQ-East on Friday (June 02).
Troops having noticed a CT 100-type motorbike (EP JY - 6410) was fast riding with a rider without a safety helmet signalled it to stop on suspicion, but the rider ignoring the request tried to evade his apprehension at the roadblock and tried to flee again after pretentiously slowing down the motorbike. Alert troops swiftly apprehended him and checked his motorbike documents.
On questioning, troops found that the rider having stolen the motorbike from Akkaraipattu town was fleeing without a safety helmet. After a few minutes, the suspect with the stolen motorbike was handed over to the Akkaraipattu Police station for onward investigations.
The General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division, Commander, 241 Infantry Brigade and the Commanding Officer, 11 SLNG appreciated the quick action of those soldiers.
