A representative gathering of both Officers and Other Ranks serving the 11 Division HQ and under command Brigades and Battalions recently listened to a lecture, themed on ‘Diverse Impact of Media on the Army-Pluses & Minuses’, held at the 11 Division Headquarters at Pallekele.
The Army Media Adviser, Mr Sisira Wijesinghe at Directorate of Media at the invitation of Major General Kalpa Sanjeewa, General Officer Commanding, 11 Infantry Division, delivered the lecture separately for both Officers and Other Ranks.
The lecture touched on the question of rapid digitalization, communication as critical decision-makers, impact of social media and its positive and negative aspects, image building requirements, misinformation and disinformation, preventive measures against adverse publicity, sustained need for awareness of pitfalls, international repercussions, positives and negatives of media, general behaviour of media and journalists, community-oriented projects and impact, the importance of mindful communication, nature of news/ newsgathering, ethics and moral conduct of media, etc.
More than 20 Officers and 110 Other Ranks serving in Division joined the lecture and subsequent question-answer sessions that followed.
