100 Troops Give Blood to Jaffna Patients to Mark 7 VIR’s 30th Anniversary

100 Army personnel of the 7 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) at Chavakachcheri, Jaffna on account of their unit’s 30th anniversary voluntarily donated blood to Jaffna patients, joined a donation of dry rations to children and conducted formal military formalities during 26 October - 4 November 2022.

7 VIR troops of the 523 Brigade under the 52 Division of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna carried out the series programmes under the guidance of their Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel I.K.G.S.N.A Bandara.

As the first segment of the anniversary commemoration, one hundred 7 VIR Officers and Other Ranks lined up to give blood to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital Blood Bank during an arrangement, made inside the camp premises. The medical team of the hospital praised 7 VIR troops for the excellent gesture, through which the Blood Bank was able to replenish their stock, very much essential and vital to the seriously-ill patients at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

On 31 October, all 7 VIR Officers and Other Ranks using their own money bought a consignment of essential dry rations and took it to the Children’s Home at Kaithady where orphaned children remain housed and cared. Administrators and children at this home for children showed their gratitude and extended greetings on the anniversary.

On the very anniversary day (4 November), a Guard Turnout presented by 7 VIR troops saluted the Commanding Officer in accordance with formalities before he addressed the troops and inaugurated the newly-erected ‘Ranaviru Upahara Mandiriya’, the monumental facility erected for the troops and the new TV Room for Other Ranks inside the camp premises. With an All Rank anniversary lunch, all commemorative features came to an end on the same day.
