More than 6000 civilians in Iranamadu and Killinochchi areas enjoyed the ‘rice and curry’ free eatery (Dansela) staged by the 1 Corps HQ at Kilinochchi on Vesak day (5 May).
The Commander, 1 Corps, Major General S.U.M.N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc who is also the Director General General Staff at the Army HQ inaugurated the free eatery and the decorations, crafted by 1 Corps troops. Ven Pimbure Dharmadeva Thera, the Chief Incumbent at Kengalla Temple delivered an ‘Anushasana’ (oration) and signalled the commencement of the day's arrangements.
The winners in the Vesak lanterns competition, organized by the 1 Corps received their prizes at the end of the programme from the day’s Chief Guest, Commander 1 Corps.
In addition, Commander of 1 Corps mingled with civilians and had a friendly exchange of views with the local sight-seers who had come there to experience this meritorious gesture.
