1 Corps New Commander Takes Office

Major General Nishantha Manage of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment assumed office as the new Commander, 1 Corps in Kilinochchi on Friday (23 December) amidst religious and traditional military formalities.

The day’s proceedings commenced with the formal Guard Turnout, presented to the newly appointed Commander on arrival at the main entrance before he was warmly welcomed by the Brigadier General Staff, 1 Corps HQ, Brigadier Wasantha Liyanawaduge. He was afterwards accompanied to receive the salute in the elegant Guard of Honour.

Thereafter, amid religious rites and rituals, followed by ‘Seth Pirith’ chanting of the Maha Sangha, Major General Nishantha Manage assumed his new office by placing the signature symbolically in an official document at the auspicious minute.

Later, the Commander, 1 Corps was invited to pose for a group photograph with Staff Officers of 1 Corps Headquarters as a memory. Afterwards, he planted a sapling inside the Headquarters premises on invitation and addressed the troops setting out his vision and mission. The day's event culminated with an All Rank tea table at the Corporals’ Club inside the 1 Corps Headquarters.

Prior to this new appointment, he served as the Director General General Staff (DGGS).
