1 Corps HQ & SFHQ - East Troops Back Food Security Drive

Adding their share, 1 Corps HQ troops in Kilinochchi on Wednesday (6) began planting varieties of vegetables, inclusive of ladies fingers, green chillies, brinjals, capsicum, banana and pumpkin inside their camp compound as per guidelines given by Major General Crishantha Gnanarathne, Commander, 1 Corps HQ in order to support the ongoing food security programme of the government.

The project is to cover 20 acres in extent in the future in addition to the maintenance of its 23-acre mango cultivation. Several Senior Staff Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks of the HQ 1 Corps took part in the inauguration of the project.

Meanwhile, the SFHQ-East on the instructions of its Commander, Security Forces - East, Major General Priyantha Jayawardena recently planted different varieties of vegetables, fruits, and sowed paddy in the Army-managed farms and fields of the SFHQ-East in order to support the growth of food crops.

The project covered across lands and fields that were acquired for this purpose on temporary basis to meet with the crisis situation.

Troops of the SFHQ East have so far covered a total of 471.9 acres of land in the Welikanda area. Paddy, Sesame, Green Peas, Okra, Pumpkin, Cucumber and Green Beans, etc are prominent among those crops.
