Precursor to the forthcoming National War Heroes’ day alias ‘Victory Day’ on 19 May, 1 Corps troops at Kilinochchi launched several religious programmes in order to transfer merits to fallen War Heroes and bless serving 1 Corps troops on Sunday (14 May).
As per directions given by Major General S.U.M.N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc, Commander, 1 Corps and Director General General Staff (DGGS), 1 Corps troops attended religious observances and prayers at Lumbini Buddhist Temple at Kilinochchi, Murugan Hindu Temple at Murukandy, Masjidus Salam Jumma mosque at Kilinochchi, Amman Hindu Temple at Iranamadu and St Theresa Church at Kilinochchi, together with Brigadier P.C.L Gunawardana RWP RSP psc, Brigadier General Staff, 1 Corps HQ and all Officers and Other Ranks.
Towards the end of each programme, Monks, Clergy, Kurukkal and Moulavi were awarded symbolic gifts and pirikara as tokens of appreciation.
