“Zambian Army Chief’s Visit Endorses Sri Lanka’s Friendly Ties & Sound Relations” - Lt Gen Shavendra Silva

“The arrival of the Army Commander of Zambia to the Army Headquarters this morning (24) reaffirms the goodwill, sound relations and close understanding that we have nurtured over the years between the Sri Lanka Army and the Zambian Army. The visiting Zambian Commander thanked the government and the Army for all the assistance being granted for training of Zambian Army personnel in Sri Lanka Army establishments,” so said acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva speaking to the Media who arrived at the Army Headquarters this morning (24).

“At present, a lady officer in the rank of Major of the Zambian Army is receiving training at the Army School of Logistics at Trincomalee in addition to a few more receiving Cadet Officer training at Diyatalawa Sri Lanka Military Academy and other places. The Zambian Army, satisfied with our academic and instructional capacities requests us to explore possibilities of sending Army Instructors to their training establishments, including the Zambian Defence Services Command and Staff College. In consultation with HE the President, our Commander-In-Chief and the Secretary Defence, possibilities for granting such assistance would be certainly explored. The Zambian Commander also personally condoled over the Easter Sunday terrorist attack and highlighted the importance of prevention of such violence.”

“The Zambian Army Commander also implied that he would send his men and women to take part in Sri Lanka Army courses, examinations, training exercises and relevant modules in future. They also invited our forces to interact with their establishments for further enhancement of professionalism and their career,” the Commander of the Army told media men who were present at the Army Headquarters.
