The 66 Division HQ of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu which has already succeeded in its ‘Green House’ cultivation project inside the camp premises began planting 300 king coconut saplings, 300 Jack plants, 350 Kumbuk plants and 200 Chilli plants (hot pepper) on Monday (3) inside the camp premises.
Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander, Security Forces – Mullaittivu at the invitation of Major General Lasantha Rodrigo, General Officer Commanding, 66 Division attended the inaugural planting ceremony plus the harvesting of the first camp-grown stock of capsicum through the use of organic and liquid fertilizer.
The 66 Division in order to promote ‘Green Agriculture’ in the area as per directions of General Shavendra Silva, Head of the Green Agriculture Operation Center (GAOC), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army launched the greenhouse cultivation programme to achieve desired goals.
At the same time, 66 Division troops introduced a new organic liquid fertilizer and insect repellents for cultivation under the guidance of the GOC, 66 Division. Farmers based in the area have also been benefited due to this greenhouse concept.
Staff officers of the SFHQ-MLT and the 66 Division HQ, Other Ranks and civil staffers were present on the occasion adhering to health guidelines.
