  • Amnesty: 5,000 Army & Navy Deserters Turn Up

    MORE THAN 5,000 army and the navy personnel who had deserted ranks before May 31 this year, have applied to receive an honourable discharge from service.Military spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara said about 3,800 army other rank deserters had turned up since the offer was made on August 24. “The programme is continuing successfully at regimental headquarters countrywide and will end on September 24,” Brigadier Nanayakkara said adding that the paper work was being attended to for the discharge of deserters.”

  • Soldiers Support Conduct of Scouts' 'Jamboree'

    12 Gajaba Regiment troops of 231 Brigade under 23 Division serving Kallady area at the request of the Sarasvathi School in Urani, Batticaloa facilitated the conduct of a ‘Jamboree’ of the school’s boy scouts. More than 60 boy scouts participated in the arrangement with the participation of a group of Army personnel who volunteered to support the project.

  • Govt. Continues Rehabilitation of Ex-LTTE Combatants

    THE government has sought the assistance of UN agencies, International donors and local business community to rehabilitate over 11,000 ex-LTTE cadres, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Major General Daya Ratnayake stated. The government rehabilitated a large number of ex-LTTE cadres who had surrendered themselves over past two years and most of them were sent abroad for employment after successful completion of vocational training programmes.
