  • 68 Division Troops Listen to Lecture on Moral Development & Effectiveness

    In order to promote Moral Development and Positive Thinking among Army personnel, the 68 Division of the Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) on Tuesday (4) took initiatives to organize two separate workshops for officers and soldiers of the 68 Division. Popular orator, Nalaka Hewamadduma conducted the sessions for the benefit of officers and soldiers serving the 68 Division.

    With the intention of educating both officers and other ranks on Reproductive Health and transmission of venereal diseases, a seminar organized by the Colombo Obstetrics and Gynaecology Institute took place recently at Panagoda Sri Bodhirajarama Temple premises at Panagoda, following initiatives taken by the Security Forces Headquarters-South.
  • Southerners Donate Books to Jaffna Library

    With the sheer intention of quenching the thirst for knowledge of Jaffna students and other interested readers, a generous family from the South donated a volume of valuable books to the Jaffna library recently. The donation coordinated by the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) was comprised of 1500 books including encyclopaedias, novels, famous story books for children and a rare collection of books for academic purposes.
  • Security Forces Appeal Gold Jewellery Claimants To Reach Civil Coordination Offices For Processing

    The Security Forces in the North who had already launched the process of returning identified gold jewellery, recovered earlier from the LTTE, to their rightful owners, appeal remaining civilians who have still failed to claim their valuables after the war to reach Civil Coordinating Offices in the Wanni, Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu, Mannar and Jaffna and process their ownership claims, proving their bona fides for verification.

    Totally blind Lance Corporal Anjana Karunasiri of 8 Gajaba Regiment (8 GR) on Friday (12), began to live together with Nirasha Dulakshi of Rathnayakapura, Nikaweratiya in wedded bliss, in front of a distinguished gathering of well-wishers, including none other than the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, himself. War Hero, Lance Corporal Karunasiri as the final battle for peace was reaching its climax, received injuries in an LTTE mortar attack on 14th March 2009.....
  • Private Lorries to Ply on A-9 Highway

    THE Kandy-Jaffna A-9 highway will be opened for the first time in several years. Private traders will be permitted to operate their lorries and other convoys to the Northern peninsula from Thursday, a well-informed Government source said. Up to now only State-owned vehicles were operating services on the A-9 highway transporting food, medicines and other essential items to the North. With this new arrangement, the prices of essential commodities are likely to come down sharply in the North.

    Sri Lanka Army Headquarters - Colombo greeted the dawn of the first working day of the New Year-2013 during a customary ceremony on Tuesday (Jan 1), amidst traditions and military formalities.     The world-class Army-produced Wushu player,  Corporal W.L Gunasekara of 12 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR), who secured a Bronze medal at the recent 12th World Wushu Championship, was felicitated at a ceremony, held on Saturday (14) at the SLSR Regimental Headquarters, Ambepussa.     WANNI: SEARCH and clear operations continued in the general areas of WELIKANDAL and PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU on Monday (03). During those search operations, troops found sixty-three anti personnel mines, ten claymore mines of 10 kg each, seventy-six claymore mines of 5kg each, twenty small claymore mines, three thousand rounds of T-56 ammunition, five T-56 magazines, ten Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG), thirteen RPG heat bombs, one Outboard Motor, two hundred and thirty-seven propellers with seven wings, twelve 60 mm mortar bombs, fourteen 82 mm mortar bombs and five hand grenades.
