Army Women Deminers Showcase Skills Before UN Delegates

The United Nations (UN) Assessment and Advisory Visit (AAV) team, currently in Sri Lanka in order to evaluate the Operational Readiness Preparations for an additional ‘Combat Convoy Company B-1’ (CCC) to serve in the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) as part of their itinerary during stay here arrived at the Engineers' Division in Mattegoda on Wednesday (22). Major General M.K Jayawardena, Chief Field Engineer and Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Engineers welcomed the UN delegation, comprised of Mr James Victor De Rcole, Colonel Lawrence Kapina, Lieutenant Colonel Rajeev, Mr Mark Flood and Mr Satvinder Singh Paul on arrival.


Troops with Police Ensure Safe Passage of Fuel Bowsers

20 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops, together with 2 (V) SLLI troops of the Security Force HQ - West (SFHQ-West) took prompt action to assist the distribution of fuel at the Kolonnawa Ceylon Petroleum Corporation premises Tuesday (28) afternoon after a trade union action disrupted its distribution operations. Troops of the Quick Reaction Teams of the 14 Infantry Division accordingly provided security to the oil refinery and fuel distribution bowsers and facilitated the movement of those vehicles without any delay.

UN AAV Team Reaches Embilipitiya School of Military Engineering

The United Nations (UN) Assessment and Advisory Visit (AAV) team, currently in Sri Lanka in order to evaluate the Operational Readiness Preparations for an additional ‘Combat Convoy Company B-1’ (CCC) to serve in the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) as part of their itinerary arrived at the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering (SLSME) at Embilipitiya on Thursday (23 March). The UN delegation included Mr. James Victor De Rcole, Colonel Lawrence Kapina, Lieutenant Colonel Rajeev, Mr. Mark Flood and Mr. Satvinder Singh Paul who were received on arrival by Colonel Krishan Manoharan, Commandant, SLSME.

The maiden edition of the ‘Coffee Table' book, published by the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) was presented to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage by Major General S.U.M.N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc, Colonel of the Regiment, VIR, Director General General Staff and Commander - 1 Corps on Tuesday (21 March) at the Commanders’ Office, Army HQ. The pictorial product documents the legacy of the Regiment's life-span, its evolution since its founding, its infrastructure growth, battlefield achievements of unmatched nature, bravery and gallantry of its War Heroes and unparalleled contribution of its War Heroes specifically to the liberation of the motherland from clutches of LTTE terrorism, etc.

On arrival of Hon State Minister of Defence, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army lent a hearty welcome to him and the accompanying Chief of Staff of the President at the entrance to the main building before they were introduced to Principal Staff Officers of the Army Headquarters by the Commander of the Army.

During the cordial interaction, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage thanked Major General K.A.D.Amal Karunasekara (Retd) RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc for rendering an unblemished service to the Army at first, and also his extended contribution of high profile after retirement as the founding Commandant at the first-ever National Defence College (NDC) of Sri Lanka.


Commando Regiment-Groomed 350 More Gifted to the Nation

The Commando Regiment (CR) of the Army during a glittering ceremony welcomed their new 265 ‘Maroon Berets’ and 85 ‘Long Range Patrol’ (LRP) men of the latest well-trained batches during a ceremonial Passing-out Parade (PoP) at Kudaoya Commando Regiment Training School (CRTS) on Wednesday (March 15). Graced by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the Colonel of the Regiment, Commando Regiment, Major General P.G.P.S Rathnayaka RWP RSP ndc, the dignified ceremony saw 4 Officers and 261 soldiers of the 51 A, B, C, and D batches of the Commando Regiment and 5 Officers and 80 soldiers of the LRP Course No - 17 after their sustained and exceptional training under the tutelage of many veterans and instructors finally passed out showcasing their exciting and unique capabilities and operational techniques that could address unprecedented threats or challenges.
