Southern Donors Award Free Books & Accessories to 603 Mullaittivu Students

A slew of 603 sons and daughters learning at three schools in Mullaittivu area were the recipients of exercise books, school accessories and educational instruments to the value of Rs 1.2 m, following initiatives taken by the Civil Affairs Coordinator of the 643 Infantry Brigade HQ. The stock of those incentives was sponsored by Mrs Thilini Athukorala of Maharagama ‘Lakdana’ Backbench Media Network and her local and overseas contacts at the request of the 643 Infantry Brigade HQ.
Chief of Staff Chairs BOM Meeting at SLMA

The Board of Management (BOM) meeting at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) got underway on Monday (8 May), chaired by Major General C.D Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu, Chief of Staff of the Army. The opening statement during the meeting was delivered by the day’s chief guest, the Chief of Staff of the Army as the Chairman in accordance with Board formalities.
ASVU Ladies with SLAWC Seva Vanitha Provide Essentials to 72 Pregnant Women Soldiers

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), in what could be regarded as a mega welfare project, together with the Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps Seva Vanitha Branch (SLAWC-SVB) and the SLAWC Regimental Headquarters sponsored the award of gift packs of essentials to 72 pregnant women soldiers serving in the SLAWC on Monday (08) during a ceremony, held at the SLAWC-Regimental HQ, Borella. Those gift packs with essentials, each worth Rs 11,500/= contained babyware, soap, powder, baby cot mattress, roller pillows, linen, disinfectants, kids' aprons, feeding bottles, etc. and the project was conceptualized by Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, ASVU, together with Major General U.D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, SLAWC Colonel Commandant and Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu.
Contributors to Gangarama Vesak Zone Awarded Cash Incentives

Award of cash incentives and prizes for the creative Vesak lanterns and decorations at the Gangarama ‘Buddha Rashmi Vesak Zone’ took place on Sunday (7) evening amid a gathering of distinguished invitees, including monks, Hon. Minister Bandula Gunawardana, Mr Saman Ekanayake, President’s Secretary, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera RSP USP ndu psc, Commander of the Navy and high-ranking state officials, students and invitees.
Army Troops Rescue Three Women & Man Stranded in Kumburppidi Dense Jungles

A contingent of Army troops of the 17 Sri Lanka National Guard of the 221 Infantry Brigade under command to the 22 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ - East in a midnight jungle operation rescued four civilians who had got lost in the Maduwankulam and Poonei-Aru jungles in Kumburupiddi, Trincomalee on 9 May 2023. Reports confirmed that a group of civilians including women had gone into those jungles to collect firewood and Palu fruits on Monday (8) afternoon but found four of the group, including three women had apparently lost their way on their way back home as dusk fell with rainy clouds.
Army Chief Inaugurates Illuminations & Decorations at Army HQ 'Vesak Zone'

Adding customary glamour and colour to the commemoration of the Vesak Week, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, together with Major General D.G.S Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General W.A.S.S Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu, Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General S.U.M.N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc, Director General General Staff and a gathering of Senior Officers switched on illuminations and inaugurated the Army Headquarters' Vesak Zone on Thursday (04) evening.
India’s Chief of the Air Staff Pays Courtesies to the Army Chief

The Chief of the Air Staff of Indian Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, called on Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army on Wednesday (3) morning at the Army Headquarters. He was welcomed at the Army Headquarters in a formal military ceremony where the visiting Chief of the Air Staff was honoured by presenting a Guard of Honour in conformity with military traditions. On arrival at the premises, he was received by Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Adjutant General.
US Army Pacific Command Deputy Commander for Australia Meets Army Chief

Major General Chris Smith, the Australian Deputy Commanding General to the U.S. Army Pacific Command (USARPAC) for Australia, together with Lieutenant Colonel Anthony C. Nelson, Defence Attaché of the US Embassy in Colombo, Major Andrew Teruya, US Army Pacific - South Asia Country Director and Captain Brittney Davis on Tuesday (2) afternoon, paid a courtesy call on Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army at the Army Headquarters. During the cordial interaction that ensued, the Army Chief and the delegation exchanged views on current security concerns in the Asian Pacific region, expansion of bilateral training opportunities and benefits and other matters of general concern for both organizations.
COAS of Pakistan Awards 'Overseas Gold Medal' to Sri Lankan Officer Cadet

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Overseas Gold Medal of the Pakistan Army was awarded to the Officer Cadet Pasindu Dayananda of the Sri Lankan Army by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan during the Passing Out Parade of Officer Cadets, held on Saturday (29) at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) ground in Kakul. The Passing Out parade of Cadets of 147th PMA Long Course, 13th Mujahid Course, 66th Integrated Course, 6th Basic Military Training Course and 21st Lady Cadet Course at the Pakistan Military Academy was graced by General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army as the Chief Guest.
Presidential Relief Project Goes to Jaffna

Mr. Sagala Ratnayaka, Chief of Staff to the President and Senior Advisor to the President on National Security, Hon. Douglas Devananda, Minister of Fisheries, Hon. Anupa Pasqual, State Minister of Social Empowerment, together with Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu Commander of the Army visited the Jaffna peninsula to distribute relief rice packs among needy families living in Jaffna on Friday (28). This programme was launched in parallel with the government's relief distribution of rice packs among island-wide low-income families which was implemented on the instructions of HE The President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
