SLLI Soldier’s Bravery in Ududumbara Awarded with Commendation Badge

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army admiring and highly appreciating the timely intervention of Corporal K.M.B.R.K.L Karunarathne of 4 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment who saved more than 50 lives on board a private bus seconds after the bus driver was flung out, invited the brave Corporal to the Commander’s office and awarded the Army Commander’s Commendation Medal on Thursday (1) at the Army Headquarters. This appreciative event was arranged to concide with the commemorative programme of the Army Commander’s 1st year anniversary of the office as the 24th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.


More Army-Used Lands Released in Mullaittivu

The Security Force HQ - Mullaittivu in keeping with the government’s policy of releasing more and more lands, hitherto being used by Security Forces for operational and security purposes in the Mullaittivu region released two more land plots of about 08.178 acres on Friday (May 19). As per directions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, steps were taken by Major General U.D Wijesekara RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu to identify those lands in the areas, served by the 64 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ - Mullaittivu.


4 SLLI Soldier's Swift Action Saves Lives of More than 50 Passengers

The miraculous presence of mind and the quick and speedy action of the Corporal K.M.B.R.K.L Karunarathne of 4 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment of the Army who was on leave saved the precious lives of a few more than fifty passengers on board a private bus plying along Kandy - Mahiyangana road on Friday (26) around 11.45 a.m. It all happened in the general area of Ududumbara when the bus driver while negotiating a sharp bend was suddenly flung out through the driver's door compelling the bus to further proceed sans a driver for about 50 meters.

The maiden copy of the booklet, ‘Vishmitha Hela Osuwa’ (Amazing Sinhala Herbal Medicine), authored by Corporal M.T.I.S Bandara of the 3 Special Forces (SF) Regiment who has gathered an in-depth knowledge on medicinal herbs while working in the Special Forces Training School (SFTS)-managed ‘Survival Herbal Garden’ at Maduru Oya was presented to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu by its author in the presence of Major General D.G.S Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army and Colonel of the Regiment of Special Forces on Monday (May 29) morning at the Commander's office, Army HQ.


Army Commander Receives Army Doctrinal Publications (Volume -2), Compiled by Dte of RCD

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army on Thursday (25) during a brief ceremony at the Army Headquarters received maiden copies of the 'Special Operations Forces' Doctrine, four 'Army Field' Manuals and the 'General Staff Publication on Intelligence', compiled by the Directorate of Research Concept and Doctrine (Dte of RCD) of the Sri Lanka Army. Major General G.W.A Senevirathne USP psc, Director General Research Concept and Doctrine, extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage and other invitees for the day's event before Major General S.U.M.N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc, Director General General Staff presented the Chief Guest with the first copies of those publications.


Four Sri Lankan Peacekeepers in Mali Sustain Minor Injuries in IED Blast

Four Sri Lankan Army soldiers serving the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Mali, known as MINUSMA (UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali) sustained minor injuries following detonation of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Mali on Sunday (21) while Sri Lankan peacekeepers were in an armored vehicle providing security for a logistics convoy. The explosion occurred about 15 km northwest of their camp in Tessalit in the Kidal region of Mali, a landlocked country marred by tribal riots. Reports said the injuries were not serious and they were undergoing medical treatment.

The state funeral of Most Venerable Dodampahala Chandrasiri Mahanayaka Thero of the Amarapura Nikaya took place on Sunday (21) afternoon at the Independence Square, attended by a large gathering of monks, clergies of all faiths, Hon. Coincident with National War Heroes’ Day Army Officers & Other Ranks Promoted

All Set to Commemorate National War Heroes’ Day

It has been 14 years since patriotic and heroic War Heroes of the Army (23,962), Navy (1161), Air Force (443), together with 2598 Policemen and 456 Civil Security Department personnel, altogether a total of 28,620, had laid down their precious lives in defence of the motherland from LTTE terrorism. As dusk fell on 18 May 2009, guns fell silent in Nandikadal and the country became free from terrorism which had plagued the Nation for over 35 years.
