The devastating impact of Cyclone Ditwah left a trail of destruction across the island, displacing thousands of families and causing extensive damage to residential properties and public infrastructure. In response to this humanitarian crisis, the Sri Lanka Army was entrusted with coordinating recovery and reconstruction efforts in the Badulla District. As part of this large-scale initiative, under the direction of the Commander of Army, the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers was tasked with carrying out the essential land preparation work required for the construction of 466 houses across nine Divisional Secretariat Divisions within the district.

Major General K.V.N.P. Premaratne RSP USP nps psc of the Sri Lanka Artillery assumed duties as the 69th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, the second most senior appointment in the Army, on 01 June 2026 at the Army Headquarters.

The Army Headquarters Vesak Zone was ceremonially inaugurated by Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army on 30 May 2026. Upon arrival, the Commander of the Army was warmly welcomed by Major General H.H.K.S.S. Hewage RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Adjutant General of the Army. Thereafter, the Army Chief inaugurated the Vesak Zone illuminations.
