The devastating impact of Cyclone Ditwah left a trail of destruction across the island, displacing thousands of families and causing extensive damage to residential properties and public infrastructure. In response to this humanitarian crisis, the Sri Lanka Army was entrusted with coordinating recovery and reconstruction efforts in the Badulla District. As part of this large-scale initiative, under the direction of the Commander of Army, the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers was tasked with carrying out the essential land preparation work required for the construction of 466 houses across nine Divisional Secretariat Divisions within the district.

The Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers swiftly mobilized troops and earth-moving equipment to commence operations without delay. Through systematic planning and effective resource allocation, the engineers have prioritized critical tasks to ensure rapid progress on the ground.

The 6 Field Engineer Regiment officially commenced extensive land preparation activities in the Haputale area on 28 May 2026.
