The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) conducted a donation programme for Army personnel and civilian staff on 15 May 2026 at the Army Headquarters.
Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, together with Mrs Swendrini Rodrigo, President of ASVU, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
During the programme, financial assistance amounting to Rs. 1,000,000.00 each, totalling Rs. 5,000,000.00, was granted for the construction of new houses for four Army personnel and one civilian staff member. In addition, housing assistance was provided to 19 Army personnel and one civilian staff member to support the construction of new houses and partially constructed houses. In total, ASVU donated Rs. 9.8 million for housing projects.
In addition, an electric wheelchair worth Rs. 287,500.00, received from the Rotary Club of Colombo, was donated to the child of a serving Army soldier who is undergoing medical treatment, while an electric tricycle worth Rs. 430,000.00 was presented to the twins of another soldier who are also undergoing medical treatment. Moreover, three water purification machines worth Rs. 54,900.00 each were donated to three Army personnel, and an overlock sewing machine worth Rs. 33,249.00 was presented to a civilian staff member.
Subsequently, school accessories were distributed among the two children of a disabled Army veteran.
Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the event.
