Major General U.K.D.D.P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, who is presently holding the appointment of Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment, assumed duties as the 62nd Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) on 04 April 2026 at the Volunteer Force Headquarters at Kosgama.
Upon his arrival, he was accorded a Guard Turnout. Subsequently, the newly appointed Commandant paid his tribute by laying a floral wreath at the memorial of Captain Saliya Aladeniya, honouring the fallen war heroes who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Afterwards, he posed for a group photograph and planted a sapling in the SLAVF premises.
In his maiden address, the Commandant expressed his gratitude to the Commander of the Army for the trust placed in him and appreciated all ranks for the warm reception. He also paid tribute to fallen and wounded volunteer war heroes, acknowledging their immense contribution during the three decades long conflict.
Highlighting the proud 145-year legacy of the Volunteer Force, he emphasised the importance of discipline, knowledge and efficiency as key pillars for the continued progress and effective functioning of the organisation.
The day’s proceedings concluded with a tea reception, providing an opportunity for the Commandant to interact with Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks
