In accordance with the directives of the Commander of the Army and coordinated by the Directorate of Research, Concepts and Doctrine, the troops of 1 Corps conducted an innovation competition under the theme ‘Corps Creators Expo’ on 19 and 20 February 2026 at the “Nelum Piyasa” Auditorium, in line with the 77th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army.
Major General P.S. Subath Sanjeewa RSP nps psc, Commander, 1 Corps and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
A total of 53 innovations were presented by Headquarters 1 Corps together with the 53 and 58 Infantry Divisions, Infantry Brigades and their under-command battalions, as well as affiliated battalions under command to 1 Corps.
During the event, certificates were awarded to all participants in recognition of their innovative contributions. Ten selected innovators were presented with special certificates and granted the opportunity to compete in the final round. The first, second and third places were secured as follows:
* First Place – Second Lieutenant E.M.N.M.R. Edirisinghe – 6th Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (Sentry X Equipment)
* Second Place – Second Lieutenant E.M.N.M.R. Edirisinghe – 6th Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (Aqua Angle Equipment)
* Third Place – Sergeant D.M.S.D. Dissanayake – 8th Field Regiment of the Sri Lanka Artillery (Automated Multifunction Device)
Major General G.D.J.C. Premathilake USP ndc psc, Director General of the Directorate of Research, Concepts and Doctrine, Brigadier Y.S.P. Sumanasinghe RSP, Head of the Research, Analysis, Projection and Development Wing, senior officers, officers and other ranks, participated in the event.
