Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna) Assumes Office

Major General K.T.P. De Silva RSP ndu psc assumed office as the 34th Commander of Security Forces (Jaffna) on 27 January 2026.

As the first event of the day, the newly appointed Commander laid a floral tribute at the Palaly War Heroes’ Monument in remembrance of the fallen heroes. Subsequently, the Senior Officer was honoured with a Guard Turnout, followed by a Guard of Honour by the troops of the 11th Battalion, Sri Lanka Light Infantry. The newly appointed Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna), then officially assumed his duties amid the chanting of Seth Pirith by members of the Maha Sangha, in the presence of clergy from other religions. He signed an official document at the auspicious time to mark the acceptance of his new role.

To commemorate the occasion, he planted a sapling and posed for a group photograph with the troops. In conclusion, the Commander, Security Forces (Jaffna), addressed the assembled troops, emphasising the importance of understanding the strategic significance of the Jaffna Peninsula in maintaining long-term stability and peace in Sri Lanka. He also elaborated on the importance of recognising the unique culture of the Northern Province.
