In line with the national dengue prevention initiative “A Quiet City a Healthy Life”, dengue prevention programmes were conducted in 56 Infantry Division area from 07 to 09 January 2026, under the guidance of the Directors of Health Services and in coordination with relevant government authorities.
Under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 56 Infantry Division, troops of the 561 Infantry Brigade, with the participation of troops from the 10th Sri Lanka Light Infantry and the 16th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, carried out environmental cleaning activities. These included the cleaning of public premises at Palinagar, school premises at Kollavilankulam and Karappukkuththi, and the clearing of both sides of the A9 Main Road over a distance of approximately 7 km to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
Similarly, troops of the 563 Infantry Brigade, with the participation of troops from the 7th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and the 8th Gamunu Watch, conducted systematic sanitation programmes from 07 to 09 January 2026. These activities focused on the removal of stagnant water at Mamaduwa Hospital and Bogaswewa Hospital, the cleaning of school premises at Omanthai and the clearing of roadside areas to minimise potential dengue breeding grounds.
In the meanwhile, the 562 Infantry Brigade successfully conducted a series of dengue control programmes within its from 07 to 09 January 2026, under the overall supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 56 Infantry Division.
Troops of the 562 Infantry Brigade, with the participation of personnel from the 17 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry and the 12 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, carried out environmental sanitation activities at selected locations. Priority was given to the cleaning of Pampemadu Varod Home for the Disabled, Barathy School, Sinnavalayan Kaddu School, Vilaththikulam School and Prasankulam Marnila Pre-School premises to minimise potential mosquito breeding sites.
The dengue prevention drive was conducted under the guidance of Brigadier D.M.P.U. Dissanayaka RSP USP IG, Commander, 562 Infantry Brigade, as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health within the area.
