General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army, together with his spouse, Mrs. Sunita Dwivedi, paid an official visit to the Army War College on 08 January 2026, marking a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral military cooperation and professional military education.
Upon arrival, the COAS was warmly received by Major General D.K.R.N. Silva RSP USP psc, Commandant of the Army War College, followed by a ceremonial drive pass.
Subsequently, the visiting COAS called on the Commandant of the Army War College, during which cordial discussions were held on matters of mutual professional interest and cooperation. The call concluded with the exchange of mementos.
During the event, he laid the foundation stone for the Indo-Lanka Sports Complex at the Army War College, a project funded by India. The ceremony was conducted under interfaith blessings, signifying unity and harmony. Following the foundation ceremony, the COAS unveiled the plaque and planted a sapling in the premises.
General Upendra Dwivedi also presented gifts and pirikara to the interfaith religious leaders who participated in the ceremony. He later witnessed a detailed briefing on the proposed gymnasium, which is envisaged to further enhance physical training and welfare facilities at the institution.
In a gesture of goodwill and continued support, the COAS of the Indian Army presented an ambulance van to the Army War College, strengthening India’s commitment to capacity building and humanitarian support.
Thereafter, General Dwivedi penned complimentary remarks in the visitors’ book. The visit concluded with the COAS posing for group photographs. Thereafter, the visiting Senior Officer interacted with the student officers of the Army War College.
Senior officers, faculty members and staff of the Army War College were present throughout the visit.
