Army Chief Commends Notable Service of Retiring Major General

Major General C. Kalutharaarachchi, Commander, Logistics Command, Army Headquarters and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, on 03 December 2025, prior to his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army after a distinguished military career spanning over 34 years.

Brief profile of the retiring senior officer:

Major General C. Kalutharaarachchi enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet of Intake KDA–9 on 17 November 1991. Upon successful completion of military training at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy and the Sri Lanka Military Academy, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers on 22 November 1993.

During his extensive military career, he elevated through subsequent ranks and was promoted to the rank of Major General on 18 January 2025. The senior officer will retire from the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army with effect from 10 December 2025 upon reaching 55 years of age. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as the Commander, Logistics Command, Army Headquarters and Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers.

Throughout his illustrious career, Major General C. Kalutharaarachchi has held numerous key appointments including Platoon Commander of the Internal Security Platoon at the Headquarters of 4th Infantry Brigade, Workshop Officer of Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers Base Workshop (Colombo), Staff Officer 3 at the Regimental Centre of Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, Adjutant of Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers Base Workshop (Udawalawa), Officer Commanding of Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers Field Workshop at the Headquarters of the Armoured Brigade, Second-in-Command of Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers Field Workshop at the Headquarters of the Armoured Brigade, Staff Officer 2 (Logistics) at the Headquarters of 53 Infantry Division, Second-in-Command of Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers Base Workshops (Katubedda and Udawalawa), Second-in-Command of the 7th Battalion Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, Senior Workshop Officer of Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers Field Workshop at the Headquarters of the Artillery Brigade, Officiating Commanding Officer of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (Artillery) Battalion and Staff Officer 1 (Administration) at the Regimental Centre of Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers.

He also served as Colonel (Project) of the Directorate of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, Commandant of Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers Base Workshop (Colombo), Commandant of Army Industrial Project, Colonel (Administration and Quartering) at the Headquarters of 58 Infantry Division, Brigadier (Administration and Quartering) at Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), Centre Commandant at the Regimental Centre of Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, Officiating Commander of Forward Maintenance Area (Central), Logistics Commander of Security Force Headquarters (Central), Director General of the Directorate of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers and Commander of Logistics Command at Army Headquarters.

The senior officer has successfully completed the Unit Administration Course, Unit Accounts Officers Course and Junior Command Course.

He also attended several overseas courses including the Young Technical Officers Course in India, Field of Maintenance of Tracked Armoured Personnel Carriers Course in China, Workshop Company Commanders Course in India and Senior Electrical & Mechanical Engineering Officers Course in India.

Major General C. Kalutharaarachchi has further enhanced his professional qualifications by completing a Certificate in Human Resource Management at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration and a Masters in Public Administration & Management at the University of Colombo.
