Rathmal Oya Bank in Welpalla damaged, submerging nearly 20 acres of paddy fields due to heavy rainfall on 20 November 2025.
Army troops swiftly carried out restoration work over two days, successfully strengthening the canal bank using sandbags. This critical intervention prevented further erosion and contained the damage.
This was effectively coordinated by officials from the Disaster Management Centre, the Divisional Secretariat and relevant provincial and local councils.
