A three-day workshop on ‘Psychological Health and Prevention of Suicide Attempts among Members of the Armed Forces’ was successfully conducted at the Security Forces Headquarters (East) from 21 to 23 October 2025.
The programme, conducted by mental health specialists from the Directorate of Preventive Medicine and Mental Health, focused on enhancing awareness and capacity among officers and senior non-commissioned officers to identify, manage and prevent psychological health challenges in the military. Early recognition of stress related conditions and preventive measures to reduce the risk of self-harm and suicide were emphasised.
In his closing remarks, Major General J.S.B.W. Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces (East) praised the Directorate’s efforts in promoting psychological wellbeing and highlighted the need for sustained awareness and institutional support to maintain mental resilience.
