Sri Lanka Army athletes delivered outstanding performances on 25 October 2025 at the 4th South Asian Senior Athletics Championship, held in Ranchi, India, earning multiple medals and bringing immense pride to the nation and the Sri Lanka Army. In total, Army athletes won 12 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals.
The exceptional performances by Army athletes during the event are as follows:
• Warrant Officer II H.K.K. Kumarage – 400 m (Gold medal), 400 m x 4 (Gold medal), 400 m x 4 (mix) (Silver medal).
• Warrant Officer II H.L.N.D. Lekamge – javelin throw (Gold medal) – achieved a new meet record, reaching 60.14 m.
• Staff Sergeant R. Nadeesha – 400 m x 4 (Silver medal), 400 m x 4 (mix) (Silver medal)
• Sergeant W.L. Sugandi – 100 m hurdle race (Bronze medal)
• Bombardier K.K.D.N. Dharmasena – hammer throw (Bronze medal)
• Bombardier S.A.T. Dasun – high jump (Gold medal)
• Corporal G.R. Chathuranga – 1500 m (Silver medal)
• Corporal W.D.M.M.S. Dissanayaka – discus throw (Bronze medal)
• Corporal R.M.S.J. Ranasinghe – javelin throw (Silver medal)
• Corporal R.R.D. Ranathunga – 110 m hurdle race (Silver medal)
• Lance Corporal D.T.A. De Silva – 100 m (Silver medal), 100 m x 4 (Gold medal) - achieved a new meet record, clocked 44.70 seconds.
• Lance Corporal M.Y.F. Safiya – 100 m (Gold medal) - Achieved a new meet record, clocked 11.53 seconds and was emerged as “South Asia’s fastest woman”, 100 m x 4 (Gold medal) - achieved a new meet record, clocked 44.70 seconds, 200 m (Gold medal) - achieved a new meet record, clocked 23.58 seconds
• Lance Corporal V. Vaksan – 5000 m (Silver medal)
• Lance Corporal D.M.H.S. Karunarathne – 800 m (Gold medal)
• Lance Corporal Y.C.M. Yodhasinghe – 100 m (Gold medal) - achieved a new meet record, clocked 10.30 seconds and was emerged as “South Asia’s fastest man”, 100 m x 4 (Gold medal)
• Infantryman D.D.S. Diyalawaththa – 100 m x 4 (Gold medal)
• Private N.M.P.P. Silva – 100 m x 4 (Gold medal)
• Private K.A.P. Malshan – triple jump (Gold medal)
• Private R.P. Gamage – high jump (Silver medal)
• Private R.M. Nifran – 1500 m (Bronze medal)
• Private W.A.M.R. Wijesooriya – 10000 m (Gold medal)
• Recruit S.K. Mithumraj – shot put throw (Bronze medal)
