Army Conducts Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness Programme

The 7 Field Engineer Regiment (7 SLE) conducted an Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness Programme for the villagers at the Serunuwara 215 F Welfare Community Centre on 19 October 2025. The programme was organised in response to a request made by the Grama Niladhari of the Serunuwara GN Division.

The initiative aimed to educate the local community on the dangers posed by unexploded ordnance (UXO) and to highlight the importance of awareness, identification, and immediate reporting of any suspicious explosive items found in the area. Participants were briefed on different types of explosive hazards, safe behaviour practices, and the correct procedures for alerting local authorities or the Sri Lanka Army in the event of a discovery.

The session included demonstrations, audio-visual presentations, and real-life examples from previous incidents. The programme was conducted by Sapper troops currently engaged in humanitarian demining operations at the Poonagar Demining Site.
